Barrister Chika Rita Okwuosa Foundation has held a town hall meeting with stakeholders of Atani community in Ogbaru Local Government Area to come up with solutions to mitigate the impact of flooding in the community.
BCROF is an international non-governmental organization with the vision of creating an equitable world where all people have the opportunity to live healthy lives, achieve economic mobility and fulfill their potential.
Speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of Atani, Igwe Augustine Ngoddy, in an interview, said that flood is a universal problem and has become an annual nightmare for the people of Atani and other riverine communities which has affected the economic life of the people.
Also speaking, Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Frank Nwadialor represented by Honourable Chukwudi Ogene, said some of the victims of this year’s flood have moved to the holding centres and assured that his administration is ever ready to work with the state government to see to the well-being of the flood victims.
The Programme Coordinator of BCROF, Mrs Anastasia Uyanne, in her speech, advocated more elevated holding centres, provision of relief materials and health care services, fumigation of the holding centres, empowerment of women and girls and to design a programme that will assist the victims reintegrate into the society when they go back home.
Some of the flood victims, Chief Simeon Ogbu, Nwakaego Isama and Stephen Mmaduagwu, said flooding remains a big problem for them and asked the government to come to their aid.
