Effective security agencies and community partnerships have been identified as the important approach towards the actualization of a safe teaching and learning environment in Nigeria through the Nigeria Police Force Schools Protection Squad scheme.
This was one of the major solutions proffered by the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Security, Retired Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi in a paper presentation titled “Security Agencies and Community Partnership in Safeguarding Nigerian Schools”, during the closing ceremony of the recent Stakeholders’ Forum on the security of Schools in Anambra State and Training of the Schools Protection Squad, at Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area.
Another speaker at the event, Professor Chidozie Nwafor of the Department of Psychology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, who spoke on “Leveraging on Modern Technologies to Enhance School Safety and Security”, among others, listed Access Control Systems, Surveillance Cameras, Intrusion Detection Systems, Emergency Communication Systems, Cybersecurity Solutions, as equipment’s to be provided in schools to aid the Schools Protection Squad scheme for positive results.
In a remark, the Public Relation Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga said that schools in the state can reach the Schools Protection Squad through “0703 919 4332”, during emergencies.
