Anambra state government has introduced rider’s permit for tricycle and motorcycle operators to curb crime and road crashes in the state.

The rider’s permit was unveiled at riders awareness programme organised by the state Ministry of Transport held in Awka.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Transport, Mrs Patricia Igwebuike explained that the rider’s permit is a security document that has riders biometrics and will save them from unnecessary harassment and make them more professional in what they do.

Mrs Igwebuike noted that the security document is in line with international best practices and will also help the state government to get the necessary data that can help those in transportation industry.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefoh advised tricycle and motorcycle operators to always abide by road safety laws to prevent accident and revealed that the state government will soon descend heavily on insecurity for the benefit of Ndi Anambra even as he urged motorcycle and tricycle operators to compliment Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in safeguarding the state by providing security information to security agencies.

On his part, the state chairman, Motorcycle Operators Union, Prince Bartholomew Igwedibia commended Mrs Igwebuike for changing the narrative for the benefit of Ndi Anambra, especially okada riders in the state, assuring that they will partner security agencies to fish out hoodlums that hide under okada industry to commit crime.

Earlier, the Head of Transport Operations, Ministry of Transport, Mr Chris Okeke gave an overview of the rider’s permit.
