The thirteenth edition OF Annual Ziks Lecture .will hold tomorrow Saturday  at ASUU Secretariat, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka by ten o’clock in the morning.

The Zik Lecture Series provides a unique space to revisit Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s dreams and visions for African unity, progress, and resilience. It is a call to rethink how African nations can align their strengths, rise above divisions, and build a continent that thrives on mutual support and collective prosperity. This lecture will examine the essence of Zik’s ideals and the power of social movements that are transforming Africa, highlighting pathways toward a unified, dynamic, and integrated Africa.

This year’s Zik Lecture will take place under the chairmanship of Dr. Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State. Governor Mbah, known for his forward-thinking leadership and commitment to sustainable development, will set the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable session of reflection, conversation, and inspiration. The  Guest Lecturer, is Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas who has a career as African Union High Representative and former Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, as well as a past President of ECOWAS. Dr. Chambas brings a wealth of experience, wisdom, and insight into the continent’s challenges and opportunities. His lecture will be delivered on the compelling theme: “Zik’s Legacies and the Rising Social Movements in Africa: Rethinking Regional Integration in Africa.” This theme could not be more relevant in  current time, as African nations navigate rapid social, economic, and technological changes.

The Chief Guest of Honour will be  Professor  Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, a respected economist and leader with a track record of fostering development and innovation. His presence further underscores the significance of the event.

The lecture will also be attended by Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, as  Distinguished Guest of Honour. Known for his commitment to good governance and economic reform, Mr. Obi represents the ideals of accountability and progressive leadership that resonate with Zik’s legacy.

Other dignitaries expected at the event include, the Royal Fathers of the Day, Igwe Alfred  Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha and Obi  Gibson Nwosu, the traditional ruler of Awka. Their presence symbolizes the deep-rooted traditions and values that continue to shape our communities, even as we look toward the future.

The Mother of the Day, will be Professor Uche Azikiwe, distinguished academic and the  wife of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. Her presence serves as a powerful reminder of Zik’s enduring legacy and the values he held dear, while the Chief Host will be Professor Bernard Odoh, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, while the Host is, Professor Frank-Collins  Okafor, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Professor Uche  Ebeze, Chairman of the Zik Lecture Series Planning Committee. and his team have worked tirelessly to ensure that this event meets the highest standards worthy of the Zik Lecture Series.

The lecture is more than just an academic gathering. It is a call to participate in shaping the future of Africa through the power of ideas, unity, and resilience as well as  honoring the legacy of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.
