A former Special representative of United Nations Secretary-General, Dr Mohamed Ibin Chambas has called on African leaders to emulate the sacrificial life of the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe to keep his legacies alive and fast rack the development of African nation.

He made the call at the thirteenth Zik’s annual lecture series at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, themed ” Zik’s Legacies and The Rising Social Movements in Africa: Rethinking Regional Integration in Africa”


The former President of Economic Community of West African States described Dr Azikiwe as a detribalized African who played major role for the liberation of Nigeria and many African nations from colonialism.

On his part, the benefactor of Zik’s lecture series, Senator Ben Ndiobi explained that the event is a way of keeping Dr Azikiwe’s legacies alive, saying that he was a great leader and teacher who mentored many leaders.


On her part, the wife of Dr. Azikiwe, Professor Uche Azikiwe called on African leaders to form a strong United States of Africa which her husband fought for to advance the development of the continent.
