The “Catch-Them-And-Send-To-School-Free” sensitization exercise of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC has been hailed as the right step in the right direction.

Traders and their customers at Eke Nibo market, commended the initiative when they witnessed the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, officials of the Commission and security agents removing child hawkers at the market to take them to schools.

Some of the children who were supposed to be in Secondary school were taken to Ezeike High School, Nibo while those that were supposed to be in Primary School were taken to Obinwanne Basic School, Ifite Nibo.

In their various remarks, some eyewitnesses, Messrs Salome Okeke, Jideofor Ekemezie and Nnagozie Nwugoagu, wondered why government will provide free education from nursery to secondary school and yet some parents and guardians still allow their children and wards to be hawking while they should be in school.

For some of the children, Favour Kpale, Ezinne Nwika and Happiness Akabueze cited the issue of lack of money as the reason why they are not in school.

However, Professor Ikediugwu told them that they have no reason not to be in school as the government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo has made education free from nursery to secondary level.

She appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that they register every child under their care in school as without education a child is a nothing.

For the Board Member in-charge of Awka Educational Zone, PPSSC, Dr Uche Okeke and Supervisor Councillor of Education in Awka South Local Government Area, Ms Vera Atigwe said the initiative has been commended by a lot of people, adding that it is in line with Governor Soludo’s perception of giving quality education to every child.

The PPSSC officials took the exercise to Nibo and parts of Amawbia community
