The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, recently launched weekly exercise and gardening programmes in local government areas.
Mrs Soludo said the weekly physical exercises have inherent health and social benefits.
According to the Governor’s wife, physical exercise improves heart condition; helps to check and maintain body weight, improve daily moods, and offers opportunity for people to congregate and socialize with one another,
She explained that that volunteers, who are physical fitness experts, will train others to be actively involved in the exercise.
Mrs Soludo, said that her aim was to build positive mindset in people and encourage them to embrace normal physical fitness and stated that working out does not have to be too intense to have an effect, pointing out that incorporating dances and walking into one’s daily workout routine could also serve as a good way to exercise.
Since inception of the present administration, the Governor’s wife, has continued to lead and encourage other women to workout sessions in a bid to get them to understand the benefits of physical fitness and healthy lifestyle.
The workout session, which is part of Mrs Soludo’s daily routines, involves several intense techniques , mild aerobics, lightweight lifting, short runs and other side attractions to make the sessions attractive and inspiring.
Exercise is defined as any movement that makes muscles work and requires body to burn calories.
It has many health benefits, both physically and mentally.
According to experts, physical activity helps maintain a healthy blood pressure, help boost energy levels, keeps harmful plaque from building up in arteries, reduces inflammation, improves blood sugar levels, strengthens bones, and helps prevent depression.
Again, regular exercise can improve quality of sleep, reduce risk of some chronic diseases including cancers and is linked to longer life span.
Inactivity may play a major factor in weight gain and obesity, which may lead to health complications. Exercise can help individuals to manage their weight by expending energy and increasing metabolic rate and burning more calories.
Regular physical activity is essential to reducing muscle loss and maintaining strength as people age as well as helps in building bone density. It can also improve brain function and protect memory and thinking skills as well as help slow down the physiological effects of aging in brain. It helps in controlling pain associated with various health conditions.
It is important for Ndi Anambra to participate actively in Mrs Soludo’s physical fitness programme to entrench healthy lifestyle in every household and reduce the burden of illness.
