Eke-Awka market witnessed increased commercial activities yesterday as residents of Awka and beyond besieged the market for Christmas shopping despite the inflation and high cost of food items in the country.

As at nine o clock in morning, the market was already filled with buyers and sellers with most of the shoppers complaining about high cost of commodities.


Speaking to the ABS, Mrs. Veronica Onyeka lamented that a bag of rice which she bought at eighty thousand naira few months ago is now one hundred thousand two hundred naira.


A trader, Miss Adaeze Ogbodogu who deals in female wears complained about low sales because prices have gone up while Mrs. Janifer Nwobu who came to buy baby wears for children complained that the clothes is now too expensive compared to what was obtained last year.
