Attorney General of Anambra State and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, says the Anambra State Correctional Service Bill 2024, which is before the state legislature, will stand the test of time when passed and signed into law.
Speaking in Abuja during a “State-Federal Level Governance Dialogue on Correctional Administration and other related Issues”, Professor Ifemeje said the bill is in line with international best practices in correctional service, and will help in effective management of correctional facilities in the state when passed into law.
She explained that the Law is in line with the 2023 amendment of the constitution which removed Correctional Service from Exclusive to Concurrent Legislative list.
The dialogue, courtesy of Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, RoLAC International Idea II and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, PRAWA, was declared open by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
It was aimed at ascertaining how far states have gone in domesticating the Correctional Service Law.
