Anambra state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor says that the decision by the State Executive Council, ANSEC, to take up the hospital bills of Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme is hinged on her desire to uphold justice and value for human life.

Mr Akaneme, a former President of Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ONACCIMA, is receiving treatment in a hospital in Enugu after receiving life threatening injuries from contract agents of Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA.
The move to take up his bills follows the suspension of the services of the company by the state government pending the outcome of the panel of enquiry set up to investigate the matter.

Speaking to the ABS in Awka while providing further information into the resolution of the council, Dr Mefor revealed that before the decision of ANSEC, a fact-finding team made up of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and Managing Director of ASWAMA, Mr. Mike Ozoemena by Governor Chukwuma Soludo was sent to ascertain the state and condition of the victim before State Executive Council acted after receiving the report of the team.
