In an effort to ensure safe and hassle-free journeys during the busy end-of-year travel season, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has rolled out what it termed “Operation Zero Tolerance”.

The nationwide initiative, which began on December 15, 2024, and runs until January 15, 2025, has seen the deployment of the entire FRSC workforce, including Special Marshals, alongside 1,102 operational vehicles and other critical resources.

Key logistics include 754 patrol vehicles, 143 ambulances, 48 tow trucks, and radar guns to curb speed violations.

The FRSC has also activated 16 traffic control camps and 23 help areas while manning 53 critical routes across the country.

Commanding Officers have been directed to maintain 24/7 observatory operations in high-traffic zones, supported by mobile courts to enforce road safety laws.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed explained that the operation targets common road hazards such as excessive speed, overloading, lane indiscipline, and driving mechanically deficient vehicles.

With Nigeria’s highways prone to congestion and crashes during the holiday season, the initiative emphasises traffic control, public enlightenment, and prompt emergency response.

Motorists are urged to download the FRSC mobile app and utilise emergency hotlines, including 122, to report traffic issues and access real-time updates.

The FRSC also encourages collaboration with partner agencies such as the police, military, and emergency service providers to ensure seamless travel experiences.

By combining enforcement, technology, and collaboration, Operation Zero Tolerance seeks to save lives and make the holiday season memorable for the right reasons.
