Anambra State Government has commenced the distribution of sixty thousand kegs of two litres of fertilizer donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to the state through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Forster Ihejiofor, who made the official distribution of the fertilizer at the Ministry of Agriculture in Awka, said that the donation is part of efforts to boost farming activities in the state, especially during dry season.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Ifeyinwa Uzoka, the Agric Commissioner said that fifty-five farmers were selected from each of the wards in twenty local government areas, except Ayamelum where twenty farmers were selected from each of the wards that had earlier received nine thousand bags of fertilizer for dry season farming.

Director of Technical Services in the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Godwin Akujieze, spoke on better ways of applying the fertilizer for increased yield, while some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs Uju Egbuji and Mr. Chukwuma Olumba thanked the CBN and the state government for encouraging farmers through the fertilizer, saying it will enhance their productivity during this dry season farming.
