The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation in Anambra State House of Assembly, Sir Ejike Okechukwu, has described the passage of the 2025 budget, approximated at ₦607 billion, as a significant milestone for the development of the state.
In a post-budget passage media briefing, Sir Okechukwu stated that the budget size as presented by Governor Chukwuma Soludo remained unchanged but said there were realignments within and across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to optimize resource allocation.
He disclosed that the 2025 budget is structured with ₦139.5 billion, representing 23% for recurrent expenditure, and ₦467.5 billion, representing 77% for capital projects.
“The budget size did not change from what the governor presented, but internal adjustments were made. Some codes were altered to enable the government to access funds for urgent needs. Institutions like Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nwafor Orizu College of Education received increased allocations to their recurrent expenditure and subvention to enhance operational efficiency,” he explained.
The Chairman expressed optimism that the executive arm would achieve over 80% implementation of the budget.
Also, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts and Member representing Ogbaru Constituency One, Honourable Noble Igwe commended the prudence demonstrated in the management of public funds during the current fiscal year, adding that the House conducted a holistic review of the budget and found no need to increase its size.
The Chairman, House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Emma Nwafor, representing Orumba South Constituency highlighted the emphasis on infrastructural development in the budget.
“During the bilateral discussions, the committee ensured no MDAs was overlooked. In 2025, we anticipate a significant positive change in the state’s development,” he remarked.
