Yesterday was World Boxing Day.

The day is a holiday celebrated after Christmas day, that is, every 26th December each year, and it is set aside by international organization to donate gifts to those in need.

Speaking on the essence of the day, a native of Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area, Mr Onyebuchi Ezeagabo described the celebration as awesome, recommending that people should always try to give to the needy, especially this period of Christmas and new year, to enable the less privileged in the society feel belonged and partake in the joy of the season.

On his part, an Awka resident, Mr Luke Choji from Plateau State observed that it is not only material things that one can give to someone on the day, but also advice, word of encouragement and support, regretting that many wealthy individuals could no longer help the poor, an attitude he said must be change for a better society.
