Obinikpa Football Club has once again proven its dominance in Amaokpala Football Tournament by securing a thrilling victory again against Ajango FC in the 2024/2025 season finale.
Obinikpa FC came into the finals as defending champions having defeated Ajango FC last year to win the 2023/2024 tournament.
Organized by Amaokpala Development Union, Diaspora Branch, the closely contested match ended in a dramatic 1-0 win in favour of Obinikpa FC during penalty kicks.
The tension-filled final, held at the Holy Ghost Academy Pitch, Amaokpala, saw both teams display exceptional skills and determination and despite creating several scoring opportunities, neither team could break the deadlock during regulation time.
The game proceeded to penalties, where Obinikpa’s goalkeeper emerged as the hero, making a crucial save that secured their victory.
Unfortunately again for Ajango FC, their hopes to clinch the coveted title after reaching the finals in three consecutive years came crashing.
Obinikpa FC received ₦500,000 cash prize, Ajango FC which came second, went home with ₦200,000 and Amaokwe FC went home with ₦100,000, while others received consolation prizes.
After the match, the team’s Coach, Mr. Samuel Nwankwo attributed their victory to hard work, unity, and the support of their fans.
Amaokpala Development Union, Diaspora Branch, through its coordinator, Dr. Chukwudi Okeke lauded both teams for their sportsmanship and commitment to promoting unity through football.
“The tournament not only brings excitement but also brings our community together and helps to foster strong social bonds. The tournament also aims to identify talents in the community and to ensure that they are greatly empowered to always represent Amaokpala in Nigeria and beyond.” He said.
