Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on international organizations to assist Anambra in bringing a permanent solution to the yearly flood disaster bedeviling the state.
Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Governor Soludo made the call when a team from United Nations Office for Project Services paid him a visit in his office at the Government House, Awka, to intimate him on various charity projects the organization and the Japanese government are to carryout in the state.
Governor Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, told the group that the state is being ravaged by flood on yearly basis, and it has continued to displace people in riverine areas, as well as destroy their sources of livelihood, and asked international bodies to help the state in the plans of constructing dams, dredging of rivers and others.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the team, Megumi Otsu, explained that they are in the state to install a free detective device in major rivers in the state; such as River Niger, to help monitor the water level to ensure timely detection of flood outbreak; as part of their support to climate change responses by the state government.
She disclosed that the organization will provide the state with vehicle, computer sets and other gadgets, which will be linked to the state Ministry of Environment, flood-prone communities and local government areas for easy tracking of the water levels.
