The Women Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Anambra State, Mrs Esther Onyekesi, has decried the high rate of domestic violence in society, and blamed it on the lack of communication between husbands and wives.

Speaking on the ABS Radio and Television Programme, “Tonimas Half Hour” in Awka, Mrs. Onyekesi, who described marriage as a sacred institution established by God, called on married couples to always anchor their union in God’s foundation, and urged both husbands and wives to view their roles within the family as complementary.

Mrs. Onyekesi, who expressed regret over the incident where a woman was set ablaze by her husband, and the tragic case of a seventy-four-year-old woman burned to death by some young people, condemned these actions as evil and barbaric, and called on the public to always respect the sanctity of human life, even as she advocated for the establishment of special centers across the country to address domestic violence through counseling, in order to end this disturbing trend.
