It is celebrated on 4th February yearly to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment, and to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer.

Speaking to the ABS on the day, the Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching hospital, Amaku-Awka and Senior Lecturer at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Dr. Joe Akabuike who x-rayed different types of cancer, said that the key to managing the deadly ailment is early presentation and detection, urging people to stay away from things that will trigger cancer crisis in their body.

The Anambra State Non-Communicable Disease Focal Person, Mrs. Ego Adaku explained that there are over one hundred types of cancer but healthcare providers categorize them according to where they start in the body and the type of tissues they affect.
