Anambra State Government has commemorated the 2025 World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day with the theme “unite to act towards elimination of NTDs”.

Addressing the media in Awka, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, who said that the yearly event takes place every thirtieth  of January, explained that the day is aimed at raising the profile of Neglected Tropical Diseases that concerns a group of twenty-one preventable and treatable diseases, which significantly impact the poorest populations of the world, and noted that the State is committed to controlling and eliminating the diseases in order to free more than six million population who are at risk of soil transmission of parasitic worm.

According to the State Director of Public Health, Dr. Afam Aneme, the day is meant to create more awareness about Neglected Tropical Diseases, and to tell residents of the state how to stay safe and report those that have such issues for treatment.

The exercise climaxed with a road walk.
