Valentine Day is celebrated every fourteenth of February to commemorate love among couples and in honour of Saint Valentine, a Catholic Priest murdered in the third century by Roman Emperor Claudius the second, for secretly uniting couples in marriage against the emperor’s order that marriages be stopped.
On a day like this, couples and lovers celebrate love through gifts and sharing things with one another.
Speaking on the significance of the day, the Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Akpo, Reverend Father Philip Okoye said the Valentine Day calls for renewal of Christ’ call for Christians to love their neighbors just as he loved all.
On his part, Reverend father Basil Ucheonye advised youths not to see the day as an opportunity to indulge in immoral acts but a time to show agape love to everyone around them like Jesus Christ instructed.
