Residents of Onitsha metropolis have praised the ongoing distilling of drainage channels along the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway, which residents said will cause blockage and possible erosion if not evacuated.

Speaking on the exercise, the Manager of the firm handling the distilling project, Chief Ekene Onyebuchi, represented by the Contract Supervisor, Mr Chinwuba Ezeama, noted that the work commenced last month from the Building Materials Market through New Motor Spare Parts Market and down to Upper Iweka axis of the area, adding that the exercise was necessitated by the need to create clean drainage channels to enable the free flow of water, especially during the rainy season, even as he called on the government to institute authorities to monitor and checkmate the activities of individuals who dump refuse into the drainage channels.

Some bus drivers, Okada riders and residents, including Chibueze Nwafor, Charley Otuede, Onyemechi Onoh, and Loveth Okeh, while admiring the new face of the area after the exercise, lauded the state government’s efforts towards giving the state a face-lift, and called on bus drivers to provide waste buckets for their passengers to avoid throwing waste from their buses.
