The Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to withdraw its directive on new ATM charges set to take effect from first March, describing it as an added burden on the masses.

Speaking to the ABS on the recent development, the Anambra NUJ Chairman expressed regret over the frequent hike in charges under the Tinubu administration, and attributed the situation to the incompetence of several appointees whom he said are indifferent to the people’s struggles, calling for their sack and replacement with competent individuals committed to serving the nation and revitalizing the economy.

Dr. Odogwu, who explained that the new directive would further push up the prices of commodities in the market if implemented, warned that the CBN must jettison the planned increment and focus on initiatives that would provide relief to the already struggling Nigerians and help revive the ailing economy.
