Israel will today free six hundred and two inmates from jails as part of a hostage-prisoner swap with Hamas under an ongoing Gaza ceasefire deal.

Among those released, four hundred and forty-five are from Gaza who were arrested after Hamas’ October 7 attack that sparked the war, sixty are serving long sentences, fifty are serving life sentences, forty-seven were re-arrested after being freed in a 2011 prisoner exchange and eight of the detainees set to be released would be deported outside of Israel and the Palestinian territories.
