Farmers in Anambra State have called on the government at all levels to provide them with more support to enhance food sufficiency and curb rising food prices.

Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that farmers in Isiagu, Awka South Local Government Area made the appeal while speaking with ABS on the causes of recent food scarcity and price hikes.

A prominent farmer in the community, Engineer Ozoemena Nwokoye, attributed the major cause of food scarcity to inadequate government support, urging the government to provide farmers with improved seedlings and access to soft loans to boost productivity.

Engineer Nwokoye recommended that the government engage directly with farmers rather than working through intermediaries, whom he accused of diverting agricultural support meant for farmers.
