Special masses and services were early yesterday held in various church denominations in Awka and environs to mark commencement of Lenten season otherwise known as Ash Wednesday.
In a sermon at Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, the Archdeacon, Amawbia Archdeaconry and vicar of the church, Venerable Jason Onyeakagbusi said this season affords Christian’s opportunity to subdue the desires of the flesh, withdraw from all immoralities and seek God’s face, stating that many do make carnal decisions which they will not achieve at the end, urging the parishioners to allow the Holy Spirit lead them alright this season and always.
At Saint Joseph’s Parish Amawbia, Reverend Father Malachy Mmaduewesi maintained that Christians should, embrace prayer and fasting, alms giving and care for the poor but most importantly, abstain from sin so as to be holy like Christ whom they serve.
