To re-engineer the minds of pupils and students towards learning; amidst high level of distraction in the digital era, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Anambra State Wing, has marked the 2025 World Book Day with donation of novels to primary and secondary schools across the state.

In her remark at the event held in Awka, which had key stakeholders in the state education sector in attendance, the state Chairman of NUT, Comrade Grace Chukwudozie, explained that the digital era, driven by the use of mobile phones, has become an impediment to learning; as students now spend more times on social media, instead of reading their books, noting that the donation of novels was to rekindle reading culture.

Contributing, the Chairman of Post Primary School Service Commission, PPSSC, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, represented by the Secretary of the commission, Mrs Benedict Anagor, explained that the use of mobile phones by students in schools is prohibited, and commended the state Chairman of NUT for the donation of the novels, which she said will encourage reading among pupils and students.

On her part, the Executive Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi, represented by Lady Uche Egbusi, described the gesture as a good effort in supporting the state government education goals.
