Anambra State government has announced plans to begin the arrest of passengers who dispose of refuse on the roads from moving vehicles.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Felix Odimegwu, disclosed this in an interview with the ABS in Awka, on the need for residents to be mindful of their environmental practices.
Dr. Odimegwu, who condemned the indiscriminate disposal of wastes, stressed the need for the state residents to see maintenance of a clean and healthy environment as a shared responsibility, rather than a duty of the government alone.
He urged park owners and drivers to educate their passengers on the importance of complying with the government’s environmental regulations, warning that the state government will not only arrest offenders but also will hold drivers accountable and confiscate any vehicle involved in such violations.
