The Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Health has ended a one-week training of General Health Workers on Direct Observe Treatment Shortcuts, expansion for tuberculosis, buruli ulcer and leprosy in Awka.

 

Addressing the participants who came from various parts of the State, the State Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Programme Manager, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, who noted that the training was supported by the Global Funds, appreciated the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for its determination to eliminate the issue of tuberculosis in the State, and maintained that they have had several Direct Observe Treatment Shortcuts trainings on the management of the disease to ensure that the health workers do their jobs efficiently and seamlessly.

 

The Zonal tuberculosis Officer for the Southeast region who is also from the World Health Organization, Dr Ufuomah Eduh, explained that they are supporting Anambra state to strengthen access to tuberculosis services, adding that according to national tuberculosis prevalence rate, two out of every one thousand onye Anambra has tuberculosis.
