Mothering Sunday in Anglican Church is a day of honouring mothers and the mother churches.

Anglican women are specially celebrated by the church in this special Sunday also called “Refreshment Sunday”.

In the Anglican communion, it is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent as the Church temporarily brings to a standstill, her fasting and Lenten penitential season, in order to celebrate the mother.

Mothering Sunday reminds mothers  that the roles of women are appreciated by the LORD and His church. .

Mothering Sunday Season gives the women the opportunity to maximize their efforts in mission and evangelism, charity and community care-giving.  It is the peak of their all-round-the-year mission and humanitarian activities. Women show love and care to their families, church and community as they rejoice and celebrate the Mothering Sunday.

This season affords the Women additional  opportunities to use their treasures, time, talents and resources to serve God and humanity through  visiting of schools, hospitals, Children’s Homes, Correctional Centres, the elderly and the needy with  maximum evangelical support in cash, food, materials, prayers, exhortations and encouragement in all  communities and local government Areas.

Mothering Sunday is also part of social event for the women. Physical exercise are integrated into the Mothering Sunday with women groups in the churches engaging in social evening that include recreational activities such as football activities for fathers and mothers,  get-together for families, couples meeting and other social activities to warm up the moods of the families especially the women.

. Mothering Sunday Season is rounded up with Mothering Sunday Services and celebrations in all  Churches. Women and churches provide special refreshment in the churches and at their homes.

Mothering Sunday is a spiritual event for women. It is real that many families are facing the heat of the economic changes and political shifting. Some people who were standing up in the past have been pushed down and forced to be seated by conditions of life. It is important to stress that  all things work together for good. Seating down may not be a curse or letting down. Seating down enables one to think and reposition for next season of standing. If conditions have made you to be seated, don’t give up, it is time to strategize from your place of challenge, for God is bringing another season and is visiting  in a special way.

Every child, husband, family, church and society should celebrate the mothers now and always. Women invite all the family members to celebrate  in this special occasion.

Happy 2025 Mothering Sunday.
