Mrs Eunice Chineze Okafor was born on twenty-fifth May, 1952, in Port Harcourt, River State. She was the first child of her parents Late Mr & Mrs Michael Nkeanyimuo of Ihuowelle, Ngo village, Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area. The young Chineze grew up living with her grandparents at Azigbo town near her native town, Igboukwu. Her educational journey started at a community primary school in Azigbo town, where she excelled academically and developed a passion for learning. Her academic passion and excellence propelled her for higher studies at St. Joseph’s secondary school Awka- Etiti, and later to St. Monica’s College Ogbunike from 1976 to 1977 for her Teacher’s Training Certificate, where she distinguished herself in character and learning. .
After completing her Teachers Training Education, she pursued a career in teaching at a mission school in Ekwulobia which was marked by dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence. She touched the lives of countless students, colleagues, and parents, and her legacy as a teacher continues to inspire future generations.
In 1977, late Mrs Okafor got married to Chief Anthony Okafor and their union was that of two kind and compassionate souls who built a good Christian home together.
Her devotion to family welfare was unwavering and she sacrificed her teaching career to support her husband’s business ventures which they built on foundation of honesty and truth.
They gave their six children quality education and they all became university graduates in different areas of study.
Late Mrs Okafor’s faith in Christ was a cornerstone of her life. She was an active member and held different executive positions in Catholic Women Organisation, Christian Mothers Association of Nigeria, Catholic Charismatics Renewal Movement of Nigeria and many other pious societies. She was also a strong devotee of Mary Mother of Jesus.
She also actively participated and was elected into executive position of the Igboukwu Development Union Women’s wing Lagos branch where she displayed her leadership skills effectively with integrity and was an active member of the wives of Ndiozo Ihuowelle and Igboukwu.
Her generosity and kindness extended beyond family circles to the wider community. Many university graduates were trained by her with the support of her husband.
She left her imprint not only on the sands of time but on the hearts of men, women and children. Her life was like that of biblical Dorcas in charity and Mother Theresa in care and motherly affection.
As a mother, she was selfless, always putting the needs of her children before her own. As a wife, she was a partner, friend, and confidante to her husband. As a community member, she was a pillar of strength, always willing to support and serve others.
Late Mrs Okafor may be gone, but her love, light, and legacy will never be forgotten as she will continue to be celebrated.
Rest in peace, dear Mummy. Your love and legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Amen.
CHIEF ANTHONY OKAFOR
