The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, at the age of eighty-eight.

In a condolence message signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria hailed the late Pontiff as a global moral compass whose papacy was defined by humility, justice, and tireless advocacy for the poor and oppressed.

Nigeria joined Catholics worldwide in mourning the loss and extended condolences to the Vatican and the people of Argentina, describing Pope Francis as an extraordinary pontiff whose legacy will live on.

We pray for the repose of his soul and for the enduring impact of his message of mercy and care for humanity.
