In a bold move to reposition the Police Mobile Force, PMF, as Nigeria’s elite tactical unit, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has announced sweeping reforms targeting professionalism, discipline, and operational readiness.

Speaking during a conference with PMF Squadron Commanders at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Egbetokun acknowledged the unit’s heroic efforts in countering insurgency and violent crime, but warned that its foundational mandate has been diluted by over-deployment to VIP escort duties and recurring misconduct.

According to him, the PMF was created as the strike arm of the Nigeria Police Force, not a private security outfit, saying this is a new era of accountability, where PMF Commanders will now be held responsible for the conduct of their personnel, he therefore ordered the gradual withdrawal of PMF personnel from non-core assignments and announced a pending re-organization of the Force to restore agility and focus further reinforcing the reform agenda.
