Social entertainment; no doubt forms the integral part of most events for the Igbos. Traditional masquerade displays in particular are usually add colo events as means of relaxation.
However, nowadays, there is s a new trend in entertainment as “Mascot Gorilla” is gradually taking the place of traditional masquerading at events.
Correspondent, Blessing Ijedibia witnessed “Mascot Gorilla” at a burial event in Onitsha; with lots of acrobatic displays, while guests, both old and young, watched with admiration.
Speaking to the ABS, the guardian of the “Mascot Gorilla”, Mr Emmanuel Maka, said some people now prefer it as a form of entertainment, adding that the price of inviting the Mascot depends on the location of the event, while a student, Master Nonso Eze, said he prefers the traditional masquerading, as it is the people’s culture.
