There is a new wave of re-awakening and consciousness in Anambra state today inspired by Mr Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo. He understands that any state is tasked with overseeing the well-being of the population that they are elected to serve but is restricted by the scarce resources at its disposal. Despite this obvious challenge, the government of Governor Soludo has been firing on all cylinders, using its five pillars of development which are security, law and order, economic transformation, human capital and social agenda, governance and value system, and environment to deliver on this mandate.
But the implication of the deficiency of resources is that there is a possibility that expected results will not be achieved within the available time-frame. This is why Governor Soludo has advocated a triangular partnership arrangement to fast-track development and meet the humongous need of the Anambra population. Named the Public-Private-Community-Partnership, PPCP model. This model is intended to complement traditional government budgetary allocations.
The public-private-community partnership model is a sustainable method of achieving development goals by leveraging the comparative advantages and resources of the private sector and local communities. It is a cooperative arrangement that brings together people, enterprises, and government in the pursuit of common goals. This model has proven successful in many instances and can be used to achieve significant and impactful results in Anambra state.
One of the major benefits of the model is that it fosters collaboration and teamwork. The model brings together the best of all parties involved, including the government, businesses, and the local community. By collaborating, these parties can develop solutions that address the needs of everyone involved. This approach ensures the creation and implementation of sustainable projects.
Another advantage of the public-private-community partnership model is the potential for increased efficiency in project implementation. By pooling resources, the government can access private sector expertise and knowledge, which would otherwise be inaccessible. It also allows the private sector to take advantage of government’s existing infrastructure to expand their operations. As for the community, it gives them a voice in the decision-making process, which leads to better consideration of their needs.
Governor Soludo has rightfully called for public-private-community partnership to mobilize resources for sustainable development. These partnerships have been the driving force behind many successful infrastructure projects in the world. For the model to succeed, there is need to create awareness and foster constructive engagement. This will encourage a sense of community ownership and involvement. This awareness creation can focus on educative and compelling messages aimed at the goals and objectives of each partnership, the benefits, and gives members a role in decision-making processes. It will also involve community stakeholders in the design and implementation of development initiatives. Through participatory processes, the stakeholders can give their input, ideas, and suggestions, which can then contribute to the development of partnership strategies that reflect their needs and preferences.
The model can also help to identify the skills, knowledge, and expertise needed to realize the objectives of public-private-community partnerships. This means that community members can be involved to monitor and evaluate projects ongoing in their communities.
Governor Soludo’s call for Public-Private-Community partnership is a commendable effort to ensure sustainable development. This model provides a platform for the government, businesses, and local communities to work together to achieve common goals. It is a sustainable method that can help bridge the resource gap in the state leading to more significant and long-lasting impacts.
