All is now set for the February third Rerun election in Nnewi North and South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency as well as Orumba North and South federal constituencies respectively.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Anambra, Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, made this known during a media briefing at the INEC headquarters, Awka.
Addressing the media, Queen Elizabeth said that rerun election was in response to the order of court which directed that election in the twenty-one polling units in the two local government areas be cancelled, and a rerun be held.
Breaking down the polling units according to the local government areas, Queen Elizabeth said that the election would be held in five polling units and four wards in Nnewi North, and sixteen polling units and one ward in Orumba North council area, Nanka precisely.
She said further that INEC in Anambra has made adequate preparations to ensure that the election is credible, free and fair like the main election in the state, and reminded the local government areas involved that there is no winner yet until after the rerun.
The REC called on the ninety-seven thousand, four hundred and thirty-eight registered voters who have collected their Permanent Voter Cards in Nnewi North Local Government Area and one hundred and sixty-one thousand, nine hundred and fourteen registered voters who collected their voters card in Orumba North to come out on the third of February to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.
While assuring of tight security before, during and after the election, Queen Elizabeth said that they have been having meetings with inter security agencies to provide adequate security for every electorate that will vote on that election day.
She called on youths of the affected areas not to allow themselves to be used as thugs during the election; as anyone caught will be severely delt with.
The INEC boss also advised the candidates to carry out issue-based campaign to convince their people to vote for them; and not to engage in election rigging or vote-buying; as INEC will not allow such.
She commended the media in Anambra for factual reportage and always confirming issues before publishing, and for reporting the umpire correctly, thanking the NUJ executives for coordinating the members well, trusting them to do a good job on February third.
In a vote of thanks, the Acting Admin Secretary, INEC, Awka, Engineer Chukwuemeka Nnaji, assured that INEC is committed to conducting credible election in the rerun, and said that they will keep learning from the past experiences to fine-tune future elections.
