Anambra State government says it is interested in ensuring that the ongoing construction of 132KV Umuchu Sub-station is completed before the stipulated time frame of eighteen months.

 

The State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Mr. Julius Chukwuemeka, made this known during the inspection of the project at Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area.

The Commissioner who embarked on the inspection alongside some other top government officials, staff of the construction firm handling the project, and stakeholders from the community, went to witness the construction by the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN.

 

Mr. Chukwuemeka, while expressing dissatisfaction with the pace of the project, acknowledged the efforts of the contracting firm, and emphasized that the Anambra State government was keen on ensuring the timely completion of the 132KV Sub Station before the set timeframe, and underscored the need for a more rapid pace in execution of the project, given the extensive support from both the state government and the host community.

He advised the firm to leverage the ongoing dry season to expedite the construction process, and requested the firm to submit a comprehensive work program for the project to enhance easy monitoring; even as he also urged them to always brief his Ministry on any challenge they may encounter in the course of handling the project.

 

Commissioner Chukwuemeka further extolled the visionary leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, explaining that the construction of the 132KV Umuchu Sub Station aligns with the Governor’s commitment to ensuring regular power supply in the State, as a catalyst for accelerated economic growth.

Giving an overview of the project while taking the inspection team round the site, a representative of the firm handling the project , Cartlack Nigeria Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Bitrus said that no fewer than twenty-five containers of equipment meant for the project have arrived the site, while eighteen more are still coming, and rated the Anambra state government as the most serious and most committed among the fifteen other states where similar project is going on across the federation.

 

Mr. Bitrus revealed that the sub-station will have its power source from the Agụ Awka Sub-station, and also explained that the civil and electrical works for the transmission lines from the Agu Awka Sub-station, will kick off soonest, and expressed the company’s appreciation to the Anambra State Government for the support they are receiving which he said has been very instrumental to the progress of the project.

In an interview with newsmen, an industrialist and stakeholder from the community, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, noted that Governor Soludo has turned the State into a construction site and commended him for his judicious investments in fortifying the state’s power infrastructure, which he said is already yielding results.

 

Present during the inspection tour were the Transition Committee Chairman for Aguata Local Government Area, Dr. Chibueze Oforbuike; the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka and representatives of, TCN, Abuja, Mr. Geoffrey Nwokoye, among others.
