The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affair and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, has assured an Oraifite widow, Mrs. Chinenye Okonkwo, who was chased out of her late husband’s house by her brother-in-law, of protection and justice.

The Women Affair Commissioner gave the assurance when she visited the widow at her hometown, Oraifite.

Sharing her experience, Mrs. Okonkwo said that after the death of her husband in 2017, her brother in-law known as “Overheat” first took blocks, she molded, which she intended using without her consent, and later tried ejecting her from her business premises before finally ejecting her from her husband’s house with force.

According to the widow, the brother-in-law claimed that since her husband is dead and she is still tender, there is no need for her in the family anymore.

The Okonkwo widow also alleged that the brother-in-law further divided her late husband’s land and built on it, boasting that nothing will happen, even as he demanded that her five children be handed over to him for guidance.

On what the community has done over the matter, the widow stated that her brother-in-law has been summoned by the kindred, but unfortunately, nothing good came out of the meeting.

Reacting, Mrs. Obinabo assured her of protection and promised to get justice for her by ensuring that she is brought back to her house and recovered her properties.

The Women Affairs boss reiterated the state government’s readiness to fighting the cause of widows in the state, and warmed that time has gone when widows are oppressed and subjected to all kinds of pain.

The Commissioner later visited the widow’s mother in-law to hear her side of the story, and from there proceeded to the land where a gigantic structure has been erected already.

She later summoned the said brother-in-law, “Overheat”, to her office on Tuesday for hearing.
