The Governor of Ebonyi State Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru, has approved the recruitment of two thousand six hundred youths into the State command of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, NHFSS.
This is coming as other State governments were urged to embrace the Hunters Service to ensure that forests are made no go areas for criminals in the country.
The Governor’s approval is aimed at enhancing the capacity of security agencies in the State to fight crimes such as banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminalities, especially those committed within the forests.
Announcing the development over the weekend, the Ebonyi state Commander of Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, Igwe Larry said the approval was a great testimony of the confidence of the state government in the abilities of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service to contribute effectively to curbing of insecurity in the country by complimenting the efforts of the Police, the Nigerian Army and other sister agencies.
Commander Larry, on behalf of the Commander General of Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, Dr. Wole Joshua Osatimehin, thanked Governor Nwifuru for the kind gesture and pledged the commitment of the Service to the security of lives and properties of the people of the State, especially in curbing forest- related crimes.
Reacting to the development, the Deputy Commander General of Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service in charge of Technical Services, Mr John Metchie urged other State governments to emulate Ebonyi state and recruit Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service personnel to complement the work of Police and other related security agencies to fight crimes.
Mr Metchie thanked Governor Nwifuru and assured that by his action, Ebonyi state would soon be free from the challenges of crimes committed within forests.
To ensure immediate compliance to the Governor’s approvals, Commander Igwe announced without delay, vacancies for recruitment of able-bodied young men and women from the State into the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service.
