The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo recently called on women to imbibe proper parenting skills in the upbringing of children to entrench a new social order.
Speaking in Awka, Mrs Soludo charged the women of Anambra State to be solution providers in their home in order to reposition the society.
In line with the advocacy of the Governor’s wife, time has come for women to go back to the drawing board, put their various homes in order and become game changers especially as it concerns child upbringing and nurturing. . Mothers are people with special gifts from God, especially in raising children . While the father may be too busy with all sorts of things, it is the mother that should stay home and ensure that the home-front is in order.
With the present challenges in the society, women should champion the course of peace, unity and social stability as the society depends largely on them to correct all that is going wrong today in the country.
It is important for Mothers to learn learn to question the source of their children’s sudden wealth, imbibe respect for their husbands and control their temper. . Parents must also refrain from chiding teachers who reprimand their children because this will greatly undermine the joint responsibilities and complementary efforts of parents and teachers in nurturing and raising children to become useful and productive citizens. There is no running away from the fact that an improperly trained child amounts to the ruination of the entire society. It is a badly trained child that embraces immoral conducts that lead to the destruction of society.
A woman with her eyes on the children will never allow them to go astray. It is when the children are not properly supervised and watched over that they embrace the bad habits of stealing, sexual immorality and even the use of the dreadful drug called Mkpulummili.
Women should reassert themselves to their rightful position in the family as agents of change and be in the forefront in the fight against high rate of cases of child abuse, sexual and gender-based violence prevalent in the society,
and the need to access quick justice for victims.
It is crucial that women as pillars of the home should lead the charge of putting in place homes that are worthy of emulation. They should inculcate in children the right cultural and social values including speaking Igbo language and appreciating that there is dignity in labor as well as need to shun examination malpractice and fraud of any kind and colour.
Mrs Soludo has continued to lead the way through personal example, and it is thus incumbent on the generality of women to follow her astute leadership. She is definitely showing the light that will direct the women and children towards attaining their cherished goals.
As Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Zik of Africa, was fond of saying, Show the light, and the people will find the way. It is not for nothing that Anambra State is The Light of the Nation. The light must never be dimmed given that good examples are being laid through proper parenting as advocated by Mrs Soludo.
