On Friday March 8, 2024, the global community will celebrate the International Women’s Day. It is a day that points global attention to the challenges facing the women and the girl child in the society and calls for action towards addressing these challenges.

While in many developed countries of the world, women have attained an appreciable level of equitable access to education, health care, economic freedom, representation in political, social and cultural leadership, the reverse is the case in most underdeveloped countries especially third world countries of West and Sub-Saharan Africa. In Nigeria, cultural, political, religious, social, economic restrictions remain bottlenecks to the ability of women to decide their fate in life.

To guarantee an equitable future that is progressive, sustainable and that encourages innovative solutions to social challenges, there must be a systematic and structural socio-economic re-adjustments that must remove any form of obstacles against any member of society that will be the catalyst for change. This is why women must be brought to the table of decision making at every level of the society.
