In a bid to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in tackling deforestation and promoting environmental sustainability, an Environmental specialist, Mr. Vincent Ezike, has advocated more awareness on tree planting, and proper plastic disposal and recycling in Anambra State.
Mr. Ezike, who made the advocacy during an interview with ABS in Awka, affirmed his commitment to fostering environmental stewardship among Anambra residents, emphasizing the crucial role of collective action in tackling environmental challenges.
He called for collaborative efforts between the government and communities in tackling pressing environmental issues, urging individuals to engage in responsible waste management, support for recycling initiatives and active participation in afforestation projects.
Expressing concern over the detrimental impact of felling of trees, Mr. Ezike underscored the vital role of trees in preserving ecological balance, averting soil erosion and safeguarding biodiversity.
In response to escalating urbanization and industrialization, Mr. Ezike stressed the need for sustainable land development strategies that prioritize environmental conservation and community well-being.
Advocating for transparent and inclusive land governance processes involving local communities in decision-making, Mr. Ezike emphasized the importance of respecting land rights, preserving cultural heritage and maintaining ecological equilibrium in development endeavors.
He also called for the adoption of land-use policies that promote sustainable agriculture, habitat conservation and disaster risk reduction, ensuring the long-term resilience of Anambra State’s landscapes and livelihoods.
