The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has called on youths to abstain from drug abuse and drug trafficking in order to save themselves from destruction.

 

The Staff Officer in charge of Drug Demand Reduction and Training of the NDLEA, Anambra State Command, Lady Priscilla Onyema, made the call during a weekly audience participatory program of the ABS, “NDLEA and You”, which airs every Tuesday by eleven o’clock in the morning.

 

Regretting the rate at which youths now abuse drugs in today’s society, Lady Onyema called for all hands to be on deck in the fight against drug abuse and drug trafficking in various communities of the state for a better and habitable society.

 

She told parents and community leaders to wake to duty and ensure decorum amongst the youths, bearing in mind that the youths are the future hope of the society, and if allowed to be destroyed by hard drugs, it is to the family’s and society’s detriment.

 

Speaking on the topic “Why youths should abstain from drug abuse and drug trafficking”, Lady Onyema observed that as a result of the rampant abuse of drugs by youths of today, the number of mad people in the society has continued to rise speedily and emphasized on the need for the youths to stay away from drugs in order to live long and healthy, and as well fulfill their destinies in life.

 

Another guest on the program, and Staff Officer in charge of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Anambra State command, Mr Nkemjika Nwogu who reminded youths that there is no gain in drug abuse as it is only capable of destroying them, pointed out that there are enormous danger in abusing drugs, which include brain damage, liver disease, madness and death.
