The Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, has taken their awareness drive to Idemili North, Onitsha South, Onitsha North and Ogbaru Local Government Areas of Anambra State.

 

The initiative aims to disseminate crucial information regarding proper waste disposal methods, encourage active community involvement in waste segregation and recycling practices, and foster a cleaner and healthier living environment.

The tour encompasses interactive sessions, workshops, and distribution of educational materials tailored to address the specific waste management needs of each locality and proactive measures towards maintaining cleanliness and sustainability within their communities.

 

Speaking to the ABS, the Managing Director of ASWAMA, Sir Mike Ozoemena highlighted the importance of engaging communities in waste management practices and emphasized the significance of the sensitization in promoting sustainable living habits, noting that increased awareness leads to greater participation and co-operation from residents in maintaining clean and healthy environments.

The Anambra State Waste Management Authority Boss expressed optimism on the impact of the sensitization campaign, stating that it would contribute to long-term improvement in waste management practices and environmental conservation across the State while commending the Transition Committee Chairman of Onitsha North on his efforts in spearheading environmental clean-up initiatives.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Governing Board, Anambra State Waste Management Authority, Professor Emma Ezenwaji said that ASWAMA is poised to instill a culture of responsible waste management and environmental stewardship among residents and expressed displeasure over the incessant dumping of refuse inside drainages, non-compliance with the monthly market sanitation exercise.

In their separate speeches, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North, Chief Chuks-Brown Igboanua, that of Onitsha South, Mr Emeka Orji and his Onitsha North counterpart, Mr Onochie Uzoma highlighted the importance of community involvement and cooperation in development initiatives, the need for active participation in civic duties to foster a better society.
