The mobile phone is one of the most important technological revolutions in human history.

Mobile phone is a portable telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio frequency link while the user is moving within a telephone service area. Modern mobile telephone services use cellular network architecture and therefore are called cellular telephones or cell phones .

Impact of the mobile phone on society has been predominantly positive but the device also has certain negative attributes. The impact of mobile phone is strongly felt in the area of healthcare, education, industry, daily life, learning, and collaborations, which has made the sectors more effective, productive, and creative.

Mobile phone is an important tool for entertainment , education , improve safety, and addition of convenience and value to lives.

In addition to voice and video calls , digital mobile phones support a variety of other services, such as text messaging, MMS, email, Internet access, short-range wireless communications through infrared and Bluetooth business applications, video games and digital photography. There are also mobile phones which offer greatly advanced computing capabilities. These are some of the technological advancements which have aided the existence of man.

However, emergence of Information Communication Technology devices have equally done some harm to humanity. One of such harms is an outright deprivation of man’s concentration in himself and his surroundings or environment.

The worst hit and the most vulnerable, are perhaps the youths who are more involved in the use of mobile phones to drive their everyday life.

These are evident in all spheres of life including the market place, farms, classes , roads, , hospitals and even in theatres or operating tables , where the mobile phone is highly engaged in one way or another . People are always involved in either chatting, answering calls, playing games, on-line marketing or gambling, among others.

While many people use mobile phones for productive ventures, some use it for fraud and other criminal activities including kidnapping and armed robbery

Again mobile phones have also become instruments of distraction, diversion and disorientation to some people as there are numerous cases of people falling into gutters, subways, train tracks, running red light and falling victims of accidents that could have been easily avoided under normal circumstances. Available statistics have shown that abuse and addiction to use of mobile phones have caused loss of lives and deformity across the world.

Similarly abuse of use of mobile phones also leads to sleepless nights which can deteriorate into insomnia which is a serious health challenge.

Sometimes, people use mobile phones to invade other people’s privacy and in some cases blackmail them there after which over the years have continued to have adverse effects on relationships.

There is now need for mass reorientation and sensitization of people, especially youths on proper use of mobile phones to serve the society better.

Parents should avoid buying mobile phones for their underage children to reduce the burden of abuse of the devices while adults should learn to use mobile phones to improve their lives without becoming a threat to others.
