The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs has embarked on an oversight visit to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to assess operations, identify challenges, and explore areas where legislative support is needed.

 

The Committee Chairman, Honourable Nkechi Ogbuefi, explained that the visit was to familiarize with the ministry.

 

Representing Anaocha Constituency One at the State Assembly, Honourable Ogbuefi explained that the purpose of their visit was to review the ministry’s documents, assess budget allocation utilization, expenditure, and the progress of ongoing projects.

She underscored the significance of transparency and accountability in governance, echoing the principles of transparency advocated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo and highlighting the role of public officials in upholding the values and extolled the Ministry’s Commissioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo for her leadership and urged her to maintain the current momentum.

 

The member representing Orumba North Constituency, Honourable Paul Obu and his Nnewi North counterpart, Honourable Augustine Ike, maintained that one aspect of the legislative’s responsibilities is to ensure that public funds are utilized efficiently, particularly to support the needs of the less privileged in the state.

On her part, Mrs Obinabo, briefed the committee on the ministry’s programs and projects, adding that they are committed to promoting justice and improving the welfare of the poor and vulnerable in society.
