After decades of abandonment and unfulfilled promises by successive administrations in the state, the people of Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba Ofemili now have reasons to smile with the commissioning of the road crisscrossing the communities.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo commissioned over twenty-six kilometers road which has been publicized, awarded and re-awarded many times without any tangible action.
Despite their contribution to the development of the state, the rural communities have remained obscure in every ramification.
With the completion and marking of the road, it will now take less than thirty minutes drive from Awba-Ofemili to Awka, the state capital, unlike when it used to take hours by road users, because of the road’s pitiable condition.
Governor Soludo in his speech stressed that he contested election because of areas like Awka North and the component communities, reiterating that his government stand for the poorest of the poor, because a system is as strong as its weakest link.
The Governor described Awba-Ofemili as the major food basket of the nation, assuring that the lingering boundary issue between Awba Ofemili and a community in Enugu State will be solved once and for all.
In his remarks, the Member representing Awka North at the State House of Assembly, Mr. John-Mark Ikwunne pointed out that that successive administrations in the state had been politicizing the road from time immemorial, but has been actualized by the present government, to the glory of God.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma recalled that the road was awarded in September, 5, 2022 and completed within the record time, despite engineering difficulties.
Also speaking the Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief Chikodi Anara stated that Governor Soludo brought Anambra to Awba-Ofemili and replicating same in other communities across the state.
The contractors in their response, thanked the Governor for the support the received which they said was why they completed the road in record time and expressed willingness to continue partnering with the state government to offer more solutions to infrastructural needs of the state and asked the communities to avoid blocking the drainages, to ensure the road’s durability.
The Transition Committee Chairman for Awka North Local Government Area, Mr. Thankgod Anagor lauded the Governor for remembering them, noting that a journey that used to take hours, now take about fourteen minutes to Awka.
Others who spoke at event including the President General of Amansea, Mr Chris Ughanze, President General of Ugbenu, Samson Ojoh, President General of Awba-Ofemili, Chief Emenike Nwakeze, Secretary, PPSSC, Lady Benedine Anagor and Chief Dennis Ngene said the road is promise made and promise kept by the Governor.
Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Barrister Joachin Anaeto, President General of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo, Traditional Rulers, among others, attended the event.
At the various locations visited, members of the communities came out en-masse to receive the Governor and entourage.
