Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo says the present administration is committed to handling issues concerning the women and children positively .
Mrs. Obinabo stated this at Aguata Local Government Headquarters, during the celebration of Anambra South Senatorial District International Women’s Day.
The Commissioner, who spoke through Miss Chidinma Ikeanyionwu said they gathered the women to highlight some of salient issues which they need to know about their rights as well to be their sister’s keeper.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr. Chibueze Oforbike who was represented by the NULGE Chairman of the Local Government Area, Mr. Steven Odumodu commended Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme for the best step taking as many women have lost their dignity on how to handle the issues of child upbringing.
On her part, the spokes person of Violence Against Person’s Prohibition Law, Miss Uju Lovet asked the women to stand out and condemn all the obnoxious cultural practices meting against fellow women.
On his part, the State Chairman of Joint Association of Person’s Living with Disability, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke called for the Inclusion of all as women are the pivot of the society.
In her presentation, the State Co-ordinator of Child Protection Network Nigeria, Mrs. Eucharia Anekwe regretted the attitude of some women who felt offended when their wards are being corrected stating that it is the primary duty of any woman to counsel and direct any child who is misbehaving.
Speaking on behalf of all the participants, Mrs. Monica Nwabueze advocated orientation for young mother’s on how best to go for pre-anti-natal and post anti-natal care.
It could be recalled that the programme was championed byRule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Other Bodies with the topic’ Achieving Gender Equality, Women’s Empowerment and Ending Violence Against Women: A review of women Inclusion in Anambra State.
