Over five million naira worth of wears have been distributed to the people of Ugbenu in Awka North Council Area free of cost.
The distribution of the wears was part of outreach programme embarked upon by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, Anambra State Council.
The exercise which took place at Saint Andrews Anglican church field, Ugbenu and reports that beneficiaries of the outreach programme included men, women, youths and children.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr Odowgu Emeka Odigwu, who introduced the program when he assumed office, said that he deemed it necessary to encourage members of the union to donate and contribute to the outreach programme, as according to him, it is more blessing to give than to receive, adding that it will be more beneficial now that the country is facing economic challenges.
On why Ugbenu was chosen to be the beneficiary of the programme this time , Dr Odogwu said that the immediate past Chairman of the union, Comrade Francis Ekpone, hails from and contributed to the growth of the community, urging the beneficiaries to feel free and select their choices from clothes, shoes and bags they came with.
Receiving members of the NUJ, Anambra State Council at Ugbenu, the President General of the community, Mr Samson Ojo, thanked journalists in Anambra for the gesture and for choosing Ugbenu, and prayed God to replenish them bountifully, even as he urged other members of the society to endeavor to touch lives positively, no matter how little, in order to enjoy God’s blessings.
The Chairman of NUJ committee that organized the event, Dr Ebele Okonkwo, explained that the committee members worked very hard in sourcing and sorting the items, noting that the beneficiaries will enjoy whatever they get in good fate.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Silas Onukwube and Mrs Grace Jideobi, appreciated members of NUJ, Anambra State Council for remembering them , praying for more blessings so that they will continue to benefit from their large heart.
The event climaxed with selection of clothes, shoes and bags by the beneficiaries.
