The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has restated the commitment of the Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration towards youths’ engagement and development as a means of ending youth restiveness.

 

The Deputy Governor stated this when he represented Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu, in Awka North Local Government Area, during the graduation ceremony of the one hundred and fifty Anambra youths, trained in table fish production business sponsored by the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS).

Deputy Governor bezim who described the administration of Professor Soludo as a government that is out to put smiles on the faces of Ndi Anambra and end unemployment amongst the youths, said that the government will continue to create opportunities for youths in the state, and revealed that thousands of youths already trained in the state through the free skill acquisition training scheme are little compared to the number that are yet to be trained.

 

Dr Ibezim thanked ECOWAS for identifying with Anambra state in such capacity which he said is in line with what the Soludo government is doing in the state, calling on the organization to partner the state more in the human capital development revolution agenda, even as he asked the graduands to use the knowledge gained during the training to be self-reliant and employers of labour.

Earlier, the President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Touray represented by the Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, ECOWAS Commission, Mrs Massandje Toure-Litse explained that the Table Fish Production Business training scheme is aimed at emancipating the teaming youths from the shackles of poverty and unemployment, as well as ensuring food security, promising that the commission will do more in youth empowerment in Anambra.

On his part, the state Commissioner for Youth Empowerment, Mr Patrick Agha-Mba while intimating the representative of ECOWAS on the various achievements of the state government for the teaming youths, emphasized that Anambra State Government needs such partnership to do more for the youths, even as he commended the youths for keying into the scheme and charged them to contribute their quota in ensuring food sufficiency across the country, using their acquired skills.

Earlier in a remark, the Rector of the Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu, Dr Njideka Chiekezie congratulated the graduands and charged them to be ambassadors of positive change in their various communities and states, as well as train more persons on the skill garnered.

In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of the institution, Dr Nkechi Udalla, appreciated ECOWAS on the gesture which she observed will go a long way in solving the challenges of food insufficiency and unemployment in the country.
