The Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Honourable Barrister Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche says the Anambra State government is prioritizing the provision of fire hydrants and stations in all major markets in the state to increase response time to fire emergencies .

 

Honourable Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche stated this in a press statement earlier in Awka in reaction to the midnight fire that totally razed four shops and affected about eight others at ATD Line, Building Materials, Bridge Head Market, Onitsha

 

The Commissioner while consoling the victims that lost their goods running into millions of naira to the fire, revealed that the Anambra State government understands that reducing the number of fire incidents in the state is a very critical catalyst for realizing its vision of a livable homeland.

 

She promised that the state government will acquire more fire trucks, repair and upgrade existing ones and cite more fire stations nearer to the major markets, cities and in all local government areas in the state to increase the response time to fire outbreaks and emergencies anywhere in the state.

 

The Special Duties Commissioner reiterated government’s worry over the incessant fire outbreaks in different parts of the state especially as over forty-five percent of the incidents are blamed on “power surge”, calling on Ndị Anambra especially traders to always ensure that electrical appliances in their shops are properly switched off before they leave for the day.
